Bearden was among the inventors of the "Motionless electromagnetic generator" (MEG), a [[Perpetuum Motion]] device which allegedly creates a hundred times more energy than it consumes. The "energy source" is claimed to be "vacuum energy". Evidence, that the generator actually worked was never provided. While a patent was granted<ref>U.S. Patent 6,362,718</ref>, the patent never states that the device should produce energy. Also, "Patented" only means that it's been given a number by the US government, nothing more. It doesn't in any way endorse the product or idea, nor does it indicate that it works — at all.
