Die Zeitschrift Europhysics News benutzt kein peer review Verfahren vor der Veröffentlichung von Beiträgen. Die Herausgeber von Europhysics News machten mit einem Hinweis zu Beginn des Textes deutlich, dass es sich nicht um eine gewöhnliche wissenschaftliche Veröffentlichung handelt sondern um ein "feature". Der Artikel unterscheide sich von den üblichen Aufsätzen auf der Seite dadurch, dass er ''„einige Spekulationen“'' enthalte, erklären sie in einem Kasten.

Als aus [[Truther]]kreisen das "feature" vermehrt als angeblicher Beweis für Verschwörungstheorien zum 11. Septermber 2001 zitiert wurde, reagierten die Herausgeber mit einer gemeinsamen Erklärung:
