Ob die deutschen Krankenkassen allerdings tatsächlich längerfristig von der Akupunktur profitieren werden, bleibt zweifelhaft. Die in der Schweiz vor einigen Jahren durchgeführte [[Helsana-Studie]] zeigte eher das Gegenteil. Patienten, die alternative Methoden ausprobierten, verursachten nach dieser Studie eindeutig mehr Kosten und waren nicht gesunder als Patienten, die diese Methoden ablehnten.
