Nach Angaben aus der Presse will die Defkalion 2012 mit der Herstellung von Ecats beginnen, und nannte eine jährliche Produktionszahl von 300.000 Stück. Das Geschäftsmodell der Defkalion sieht eine dauerhafte Vermietung oder leasing von "E-cat" auch an Privatkunden vor. Eine 10kW oder 20kW-Anlage (die Angabe ist ungenau) soll demnach pro Jahr 1.300&nbsp;Euro kosten, inklusive der Betriebskosten und des "Brennstoffaustauschs", der vom Hersteller durch Geräteaustausch bewerkstelligt werden soll.
