Seit 2015 ist die Rede von einer Studie des Professor für Bauingenieurwesen an der University of Alaska (Fairbanks / UAF), Leroy Hulsey, die angeblich den offiziellen NIST-Bericht wissenschaftlich widerlegt habe und 2017 veröffentlicht werden sollte. Allerdings ist bis heute (Stand: August 2018) die gemeinte Studie nicht veröffentlicht worden.
