I have been in touch with one of Dr. Ko's colleagues, The message regarding the tragedy in Germany is the following;
First we do not know what if any connection there is to 3-BP, but if it should be the case then there are two important issues to address, the first is that without proper formulation, preparation and application this is a potentially dangerous molecule. The second issue of great importance is that of patient selection. Not everyone is a candidate for this approach. Screening of patients with the correct testing will help prevent unwelcome outcomes. This tragedy was predictable when desparate people take measures to work with people who may be unqualified or have the wrong motivation driving them in providing these services. We all should have the right to live and choose the path in how we accomplish this, no government should interfere with that,but we need to guard against opportunists who would take advantage of that. Those that do not meet a standard of behavior that is acceptable should be punished. We know people will die regardless of our best efforts but those efforts should be as clear and safe as posiible to preserve the life before us not just take their money.
